BED BUG PREPARATION CHECK LIST

 

1. Remove all clothing, linens, curtains, towels, etc. from the infected room(s) and wash them in hot water.

     This includes items found in dressers and closets. Next, dry them using the hottest setting on your dryer

     for at least 30 minutes.

 

2. If garments or items should needs dry- cleaning services. Place items in sealed bags before removing them to be  

     serviced.

 

3. Clothing and linens washed and dried must go in sealed bags directly and securely placed in clean  plastic bags.

 

4. Shoes, purses and other personal items need to be in secured tightly closed plastic containers, or plastic bags.

 

5. If you already have zippered mattress bags on your mattress and springs, please leave them on.

 

6. Remove dresser drawers from the dresser cabinets and move the dresser(s) away from the walls if you are able to

    do so.

 

7. Take the mattress and box springs off the bed frame and put them upright against the wall. If you are not able to

     move them then your exterminator will help.

 

SAFETY: After initial treatment, all persons and pets must stay off the floors and upholstered furniture for at least four hours to make sure treated surfaces are dry. The materials used are all EPA‐registered and safe when applied according to label directions.Licensed exterminators the apply materials. They will not be harmful to anything other than the Bed Bug. Let solutions dry at least 4 hours from time of application. The treatment will not harm houseplants. If you are not going to be home on the treatment date, please arrange for the exterminator to have access to your home.

 

PLEASE NOTE: Your exterminator will have to cut the dust covers underneath the box springs, and all upholstered furniture. Dust covers removed from your furniture remain off. Move all furniture at least three feet from all walls. If you are not able to do so your exterminator will offer assistance in order to access all baseboards in the infected roomsand throughout your home, again, if you are not able to do so your exterminator will help. Unplug lamps, televisions and other electronic devices.

 

VACUUM:  All floors must be vacuumed. Sprinkle about ¼ to ½cup of talcum powder or cornstarch in each section of floor before vacuumed. This step will suffocate the Bed Bugs vacuumed and help to seal them in the container. When you have completed this step, place your bag or the contents of vacuum cup in a tightly sealed plastic garbage bag. Dispose of it immediately! Next, put the vacuum in a plastic bag. Do not miss this step.

 

PREPARING FOR THE EXTERMINATOR IS MOST IMPORTANT: Do as much as possible to allow your Bed Bug treatment to begin. Remove all light switch plate covers and electric outlet cover plates. The exterminator will want to inject these areas with an insecticide dust to treat as much wall void areas as possible. These small places are among the favorite hiding places for Bed Bugs.After treatment, place mattresses and box springs in zippered Bed Bug‐proof plastic bed coverings.

 

NOTES: Brands of Bed Bug proof encasements can be located on the internet and advise you where to purchase them. Before treatment begins, remove pets, from the rooms that are going to be treated. If fish tanks cannot be removed disconnect the air pumps and cover the tanks with plastic sheeting, secure tight.
