Fleas feed on blood from animals and humans. Adult fleas have a brownish external shell like covering and are about 1/8 of an inch in length. Amazingly fleas are compressed down to an almost flat insect. This allows the flea to navigate through the hair and fer of the host animal with ease.

The cat flea and dog flea are the most likely fleas to be carried into the home and have an effect on humans. Fleas also feed on raccoon’s squirrels opossums and rats. These kinds of animals can create a nest inside of attics ending up carrying an infestation of fleas into the house.

Fleas are one of the insects that are known to carry and spread disease such as the plague, cat scratch fever and typhus. When treating for a flea infestation the animals need to be treated also. This should be done at the same time of or just prior to having a professional pest control company come to treat your home. Another thing to be aware of is having the inside and the outside of the home both treated along with the animals. Fleas lay eggs and for effective flea eradication there should always be two applications performed.

In order to gain complete control proper procedures along with the proper materials and application methods will need to be implemented. This will give you immediate relief. All flea treatments should include growth regulators in the applications. Growth regulators will sterilize the insect making it impossible to reproduce. This is a method that has to be applied to any insect species that lay eggs.
